Diesel generator set radiator maintenance method

July 29, 2022
The refrigerant in the radiator of a running diesel generator set is usually hot and under pressure. Do not sort out the radiator or remove the pipes when not cooling, and do not work or open the fan shield when the fan is rotating.

Corrosion in the radiator is a major cause of failure. Always keep the pipe joints free of leaks and periodically add water from the radiator* section to discharge gas to keep the system "gas free". Diesel generator radiators should not be partially filled with water as it will accelerate corrosion. For non-working diesel generators, all water should be emptied or filled. If possible, use distilled or *soft* water and add an appropriate amount of rust inhibitor.

External cleaning: In environments with high levels of dust or dirt, the gaps between diesel generator radiators may become clogged with debris, insects and other objects, which can affect the efficiency of the radiator. For regular cleaning of these light deposits, you can use low-pressure hot water and detergent spray, steam or water can be sprayed from the front of the radiator to the fan. For example, spraying from the reverse will only blow the dirt into the center. When using this method, take a cloth to block the diesel generator. If stubborn deposits can not be removed by the above method, you can remove the radiator, soak in hot lye water for about 20 minutes, and then rinse with hot water.

Internal cleaning: If you do not choose to use the water irrigation method for a period of time due to leaking joints, or if the system may be clogged with scale due to power generation running for a period of time without a descaling agent
