An article takes you to understand the classification and installation of diesel generator set cooling fan

July 12, 2022
Fan is an important part of diesel generator set, the function is to increase the wind speed and air volume through the cooling water tank to improve the cooling capacity of the cooling water tank. At present, diesel generator sets generally use single-stage axial flow fan because it has the advantages of larger air volume, high efficiency and compact structure.

At present, diesel generator sets generally use single-stage axial fan, because it has the advantages of larger air volume, high efficiency, compact structure, etc..

Fan blade is generally made of thin steel plate stamping, its cross-section is mostly curved, and some use aluminum alloy cast into a wing-shaped cross-section. At present, there are flexible materials such as nylon made of fan blade, the advantage is that in high speed blade and rotation plane angle becomes small, can reduce noise and power consumption. Fan blades are generally four or six, but also useful for two pieces. Blade and rotation plane tilt angle is often 30 ~ 60 °, the angle between the blades is generally not equal, in order to reduce the vibration and noise when rotating. The fan is arranged between the body and the cooling water tank, and can be installed in the specially set up wind guide cover. According to the use of different conditions, you can use suction fan or blowing fan, the fan is usually driven by the crankshaft through the v-belt, the fan belt must maintain a certain tension, too loose will slip, too tight will increase wear. When adjusting, press the belt by hand in the middle of the pulley, its deflection is usually within 12~20mm.

Diesel engine closed-circulation cooling system, the use of punching riveted double pallet fan, as the air-cooled water, oil radiator forced air cooling. According to the different models of diesel engines and the calibrated power, different specifications of fans can be used.

When the diesel engine is working, according to its direction of rotation, the fan should be judged by the principle that the concave curved surface of the wind blade should be the pressure wind surface to determine whether the fan is blowing or suction wind type. For example, if you look at the front end of the diesel engine, if the pressurized surface of the fan (concave curved surface) is facing you, it is blowing type; on the contrary, if the non-pressurized surface (concave curved surface) is facing you, it is suction type, as shown below. Do not install the fan in reverse, otherwise the non-pressure wind surface of the air blade will become the pressure wind surface, affecting the fan air volume, so that the radiator cooling effect is reduced.

There are two ways to install the fan on the diesel engine: one is to install the fan directly on the pump driven by the triangle rubber belt; the other is to install it on the special fan stand.

In order to ensure the normal work of the fan and not to affect the normal operation of the cooling system, users should regularly check whether the installation of the fan is solid and whether all the air blades have loose rivets, cracks and bending deformation, if found should be replaced with new ones, so as to avoid the occurrence of accidents such as breaking the air blades and breaking the water radiator due to the poor balance of the fan. The tightness of the rubber triangle should be adjusted regularly, too tight will cause excessive bearing wear; too loose will make the fan's air volume drop, affecting the cooling effect. The fan should not be wrenched by hand to pan the diesel engine, so as not to deform the wind blade and damage. Regularly fill the straight-through pressurized oil cup with the right amount of grease.
