Analysis of the reasons for the high water temperature of diesel generator sets

May 30, 2022
A diesel generator set is a device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. The fuel combustion of the Cummins generator will generate heat, and water is the medium for heat dissipation. The water temperature of the diesel generator set should not be too high or too low, otherwise it will cause certain harm to the generator set. The generator manufacturer reminded that the water temperature of the diesel generator set It is better to be around 80°, and the maximum cannot exceed 95°.

However, many users still encounter the situation that the water temperature is too high. What is the reason for this?

       1. Diesel generator sets use hard water for a long time. When the generator set is running, the water tank will generate temperature, so a large amount of scale will be formed in the water tank and water channels, resulting in poor heat dissipation.
       2. Too much impurities are deposited in the water channel of the generator body and the cylinder head, which makes the water circulation not smooth and causes poor heat dissipation.
       3. Diesel generator sets burn oil seriously, resulting in excessive carbon deposits and poor heat dissipation.
       4. Improper operation and use of diesel generator sets. When starting the diesel generator, use the small and medium throttle to warm up for a period of time. Do not suddenly increase the throttle or increase the load, otherwise the diesel generator will work rough and the temperature will increase sharply. Or the diesel generator is overloaded for a long time, which will also cause the temperature of the diesel generator to be too high.
       5. The oil supply time is too late, causing the Cummins diesel generator set to overheat.
       6. Immediately put into full-load operation after maintenance, which will cause the moving parts to overheat, or be stuck due to too small matching clearance.
       7. Insufficient cooling water causes overheating of diesel generator sets.

In summer, the temperature is high, and the temperature of the coolant of diesel generator sets rises rapidly in such a high temperature season. The Cummins diesel engine is prone to reduce the fitting clearance of moving parts, the strength is reduced, and the lubrication is poor at a water temperature of 100°. In severe cases, it may cause cylinder pulling and shaft holding accidents. Therefore, the diesel generator should stop working when the coolant exceeds about 95°. Or reduce the load to avoid irreparable damage caused by failure.
