Diesel generator starter battery failure example analysis: poor battery contact repair method

July 22, 2022
The battery is the power supply equipment to start the diesel generator set operation, diesel generator set start, the battery is required to be able to supply low voltage high current (200~600A) to the starter set in a short period of time, when the battery fails due to various reasons, the set will not be able to start normally, in order to avoid this kind of situation, the user must do a good job of daily inspection and maintenance of the battery, this top Bo power for more Typical failure phenomenon for you to start the diesel generator battery failure example analysis: battery poor contact repair method is introduced.

Failure analysis and diagnosis: Usually, the dirty battery pile at startup limits the strong current passage between the pile and the battery cable connector. The corrosion phenomenon appears on the top or side pole piles.

You can use a voltmeter to check the connection between the battery pile and the cable connector, connect the battery pile and the connector, check the voltage drop, the presence of any voltage drop indicates the existence of resistance between the pile and the connector, that is, the existence of corrosion. If the connection is good, the voltage is zero.

Maintenance methods.

1. When maintaining the battery, be sure to use the correct battery special tools. Clean the battery pole pile according to the following procedure.

a. Remove the negative connector, and then remove the positive connector.

b. Use a wire brush to brush the connector and the pole pile to remove all corrosion as shown in Figure 1-2.

c. Use a small amount of sodium carbonate solution and water to clean the remaining corrosion.

2. Corroded battery pole pile clips can be replaced. Remove the stake clip from the battery contact, cut off the old stake clip, and strip the insulation from the cable about 3/4 in (inch). Clean up the exposed copper wire and install the top-mounted or side-mounted stake clips or connectors. Strip back the insulation to expose the copper wire, remove the old connector, cut the insulation from the cable, and replace it with a new connector. After replacement, put a thin layer of grease on the connector to reduce corrosion.
