Do you know how to interpret the generator protection level?

April 20, 2022
The code of the protection level of the motor consists of the characterizing letter "IP" (representing international protection) and two additional characterizing numbers. Commonly used motor protection grades are IP11, IP21, IP22, IP23, IP26, IP44, IP54, IP55, etc.

IP21 generators are generally used for land use; IP26 generators are generally used for marine use; IP44 water-cooled generators are generally used for marine use. So what is the classification and definition of the generator protection level (first digit)?

1. Protection of solids larger than 50mm can prevent solid foreign objects larger than 50mm in diameter from entering the shell. Can prevent a large area of the human body (such as the hand) from accidentally or accidentally touching live or moving parts of the shell, but cannot prevent conscious access to these parts.

2. Protection of solids larger than 12mm can prevent solid foreign objects larger than 12mm in diameter from entering the shell. It can prevent fingers from touching live or moving parts inside the case.
Motor protection class.

3. Protection of solids larger than 2.5mm can prevent solid foreign objects larger than 2.5mm in diameter from entering the shell. It can prevent tools, metal wires, etc. with a thickness or diameter of 2.5mm from touching live or moving parts in the shell.

4. Protection of solids larger than 1mm can prevent solid foreign objects larger than 1mm in diameter from entering the shell. It can prevent wires or strips with a diameter or thickness greater than 1mm from touching live or running parts in the shell.

5. Dustproof It can prevent dust from entering to the extent that it affects the normal operation of the product, and completely prevent access to live or moving parts in the shell.

6. Dust tightness can completely prevent dust from entering the shell, and completely prevent touching the live or moving parts in the shell.

7. Anti-drip Vertical dripping water should not directly enter the motor.

8. Anti-drip at 15-degree angle The dripping water within an angle of 15 degrees from the plumb line should not directly enter the motor.

9. Anti-splashing water The water splashing within an angle of 60 degrees from the plumb line should not directly enter the motor.

10. Splash-proof Water splashing in any direction should have no harmful effect on the motor.

11. Water spray prevention The water spray in any direction should have no harmful effect on the motor, and the standard is 1 meter.

12. Anti-sea waves or forced water jets Violent sea waves or strong water jets should have no harmful effect on the motor.

13. Water immersion The motor is immersed in water under the specified pressure and time, and its water intake should have no harmful effect.

14. The submersible motor is immersed in water for a long time under the specified pressure, and its water intake should have no harmful effect. The commonly used protection grades of motors are IP21, IP23, IP44, IP54, IP55, IP56, and IP65.
