Do you know what the diesel generator oil grade mark means?

April 20, 2022
Different brands/grades of oil (lubricating oil) cannot be mixed in the diesel generator set, because the types and viscosity levels of the two different brands of oil are the same, but the lubricants produced by different manufacturers will have some differences in the chemical composition of additives. , After mixing, chemical reactions may occur between different additives, which will damage the service life of diesel generator sets.

Oil (lubricating oil) is the blood of diesel generators. Its function is to ensure the normal operation of diesel generator sets. It can lubricate metal parts, reduce friction between parts, take away the heat generated by diesel engines during operation, and clean them. The fine metal debris produced by wear also has functions such as sealing, vibration damping, and rust prevention. We all know that diesel generator sets generally use CF-15W40 lubricating oil, but what information is contained in these data?

Diesel generator set lubricating oil quality grade: C means diesel generator oil. F represents the grade, from API: CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CF, CF-4, CG-4, CH-4, the further the letter goes, the higher the oil grade.

Diesel generator set lubricating oil viscosity grade: 5W indicates the operating temperature range of the oil, ranging from 0W, 5W, 10W, 15W, 20W, 25W, etc. The smaller the number, the better its low temperature fluidity, and the better it can work under low temperature conditions. Usually we calculate the low temperature start-up performance. To be simple, add "-35°" to the number in front of W. For example, "0W" means that the lowest temperature can be started normally at minus 35 degrees. 40 means the viscosity of the oil at 100 °C. The grades are SAE20, 30, 40, 50, and 60. The higher the number, the higher the viscosity. 5W50 is commonly known as multi-grade oil, which means that the viscosity of this oil at low temperature meets the requirements of 5W, and the viscosity of 100 ℃ meets the requirements of No. 40. 5W40 SL/CF indicates that this oil has good low temperature flow performance, meets the requirements of 5W, and has a viscosity in the range of No. 40 at 100 ° C. It has the performance of gasoline engine SL grade and diesel engine CF grade. It is suitable for use in winter and summer, and is suitable for both north and south. It is a pure synthetic lubricant.
