Five methods for noise reduction of diesel generator sets

June 01, 2022
Diesel generator sets will emit certain noise when running. The noise sources are mainly divided into combustion noise, mechanical noise and gas vibration noise. Excessive noise will cause pollution to the environment and nearby residents. Therefore, users of diesel generator sets must pay attention to the generator. Perform noise reduction processing, the following five methods can effectively reduce the noise of the generator, you should try it.

       1. Generator placement: A key way to reduce the impact of generator noise is smart placement of the generator. The farther away the generator is from the people (employees, customers, etc.) affected by its noise, the less noise it will make. Choosing a generator room in a remote but accessible location will greatly reduce noise levels. Likewise, rooftop generators that are farther away from operation will be less noticeable.

       2. Sound deflector: The more sound barriers, the greater the sound deflection when sound waves reflect sound waves. Examples of noise barriers include walls, screens, and quiet enclosures.

       3. Soundproofing: Soundproofing a generator room or other room where you want to prevent generator noise is a fairly easy step. Insulation helps absorb sounds, preventing them from spreading to where you need quiet. Consider sound insulation when designing your generator room for maximum efficiency. Or equipped with a silent box, the box body of the Tingbo series silent generator adopts an overall fully enclosed structure, which has strong sealing and ensures sufficient strength. It can be divided into three parts: the main body, the air inlet chamber, and the exhaust chamber. The door of the box is designed with a double-layer soundproof door, and the inside of the box is subjected to noise reduction treatment. Covered with flame retardant cloth, the inner wall of the box is made of plastic-plated or painted metal gussets; after the box is treated, when the unit is working normally, the noise at 1m from the box is 75dB.

       4. Anti-vibration mounts: Instead of mounting the generator on the floor, choose anti-vibration mounts to help absorb vibration and minimize generator noise. Anti-vibration mounts provide support and help protect your generator from damage. What to do: Add anti-vibration features to the engine housing To minimize motor noise, you need to use sound and vibration damping materials on the engine block. The screws usually already have rubber washers attached to reduce noise, but you can double this by adding another rubber washer and a longer bolt. If you look at the frame around the engine, you can see where the screws go. Install rubber washers here to reduce vibration and noise.

       5. Mufflers: Mufflers, also known as sound attenuators, are designed to reduce the sound produced by different types of equipment. Mufflers can be installed in the intake or exhaust area of the generator and they help minimize sound output.
