Introduction to the types of oil pumps commonly used in diesel generator sets

June 14, 2022
The oil pressure and flow in the oil circuit of the diesel generator set are supplied by the oil pump. In order to enable the oil to reach the parts of the diesel generator set that need to be lubricated, the lubrication must be pressurized to reach the lubricating surface. The function of the oil pump is to After the oil is increased in pressure, it is sent to the friction surfaces of the lubricating parts to ensure the continuous circulation of the oil in the lubrication system. The oil pump is located in the crankcase to facilitate the suction of the oil from the oil pan and then send it to the engine. The oil pump is a positive displacement pump, and a certain amount of oil will be pumped out for each revolution of the pump. As the speed increases, the oil pressure and oil volume also increase. Therefore, the technical condition of the oil pump directly affects the normal operation of the lubrication system. In order to allow users to understand the function of the oil pump more intuitively, the following introduces the types of oil pumps commonly used in diesel generator sets.

Eccentric Gear Pump

The working principle of the eccentric gear pump is similar to that of the gear pump (eccentric means that the centers of the two gears are not the same). There are two gears in the figure below, and the centers of the two gears are in different positions. When the inner drive gear is turned by the crankshaft, suction is created between the teeth on the bottom. Lubrication is sucked into the pump from the lower suction mouth, pressure is generated between the teeth at the top, the oil is squeezed out and pressurized and pressure is formed: the oil is brought to the upper discharge port and discharged into the lubricating oil channel: the structure of the eccentric gear pump As shown below. It is composed of filter screen, oil collecting pipe, О-shaped sealing ring, casing, driving gear, passive gear, cylinder block oil passage, etc.

gear oil pump

The gear type oil pump is divided into two types: external gear type and internal gear type. The working principle of the standard gear pump is as shown in the figure: In this case, when each tooth is removed from the groove on the gear, due to the the vacuum, the oil is sucked into the left side of the pump. Then, as the gears continue to turn, the oil is sent to the pump to the other side. When the gear on the right side of the pump engages, the oil is forced out of the groove in the gear to create oil pressure. The gear type oil pump has simple structure, convenient machining, reliable operation and long service life, so it is widely used.

The above is the introduction of the oil pump types commonly used in diesel generator sets organized by the generator manufacturer Dingbo Power. It is also worth noting that the oil pump cannot be repaired. If the internal parts of the oil pump are excessively worn beyond the technical sp
