Notice! Diesel generator set coolant temperature is not the lower the better

June 01, 2022
The diesel generator set is affected by its own diesel combustion during operation, which will cause the temperature of the diesel engine to rise sharply. Under the high temperature environment, it will not only affect the working efficiency of the diesel generator set, but also cause the occurrence of component failures. The use of diesel generator set coolant solves the problems of poor cooling of diesel generator sets and excessive temperature of parts, avoids the occurrence of diesel generator set operating failures, and has the functions of anti-corrosion, anti-rust and anti-scaling.
Diesel generator sets

The diesel generator set is affected by its own diesel combustion during operation, which will cause the temperature of the diesel engine to rise sharply. Under the high temperature environment, it will not only affect the working efficiency of the diesel generator set, but also cause the occurrence of component failures. The use of diesel generator set coolant solves the problems of poor cooling of diesel generator sets and excessive temperature of parts, avoids the occurrence of diesel generator set operating failures, and has the functions of anti-corrosion, anti-rust and anti-scaling.

There are clear requirements for the use of the coolant temperature of diesel generator sets. In the actual use process, some users have some misunderstandings about the use of coolant, thinking that the lower the coolant temperature of diesel generator sets, the better. Some operators like to adjust the coolant temperature very low, close to the lower coolant temperature limit, and some even lower than the lower coolant temperature limit. They believe that if the coolant temperature is low, the water pump will not have cavitation, the coolant will not be interrupted, and the safety factor will be higher in use. Here, Dingbo Power would like to remind users: In fact, as long as the coolant temperature does not exceed 95℃, there will be no cavitation and the coolant will not be interrupted. On the contrary, if the coolant temperature is too low, it will cause great harm to the diesel engine.

       1. With the increase of oil viscosity in the lubrication system, the running resistance of diesel generator set parts increases, resulting in poor lubrication and increased wear between parts. For example, when the coolant temperature is 30°C, compared with the coolant temperature of 80-90°C, the wear of the cylinder liner, piston and piston ring will increase by about 5 times.
       2. Low coolant temperature, deterioration of combustion conditions in the cylinder of the diesel engine, poor fuel atomization, prolonged afterburning period, rough operation of the diesel engine, etc., aggravate the damage of crank bearings, piston rings and other parts, and reduce the power and economy of the unit.
       3. The water vapor after combustion is easy to condense on the cylinder wall, causing metal corrosion.
       4. Unburned diesel will dilute the oil, resulting in poor lubrication.
       5. The incomplete combustion of fuel will form gum, which will make the piston ring stuck in the piston ring groove, the valve will be stuck, and the pressure in the cylinder will decrease when the compression ends.
       6. With the increase of heat loss, the power of the diesel engine decreases and the fuel consumption increases.
       7. The fuel atomization is not good, the combustion is incomplete, the power is reduced, and the fuel consumption is increased. If the coolant temperature is 40℃, the fuel consumption of the diesel engine will be about 10% higher than that at 80℃.

Through the above introduction, I believe you have understood that the temperature of the diesel engine coolant is not as low as possible, and is generally controlled between 80°C and 95°C. Tingbo Electric would like to remind users that if the coolant is not replaced for a long time, its use effect will be reduced, so it is recommended that we need to replace the coolant every year and a half to two years.
