Test and Adjustment of Diesel Generator Set Fuel Injector

May 30, 2022
The normal operation of the fuel injector is very important for the diesel generator set. Before the unit is put into normal operation, the fuel injector should be tested and adjusted, so that the Volvo unit can run stably for a long time. Provide the best performance and prevent failures in diesel generator operation due to mistakes or negligence.

The fuel injector is a precision device with very high machining accuracy. It is mainly composed of the bottom of the fuel injector casing, the fuel injector pair, the pressure regulating spring, etc. It is required to have a large dynamic flow range and anti-clogging during the normal operation of the generator. And anti-pollution ability and good atomization performance.

Test and adjustment of diesel generator set injector:
       1. The sealing test of the conical surface of the fuel injector coupler. The fuel injector is installed on the fuel injector tester, and the pressure regulating screw of the fuel injector is twisted so that the reading of the pressure gauge is close to or slightly lower than the fuel injection pressure, that is, it is not in the fuel injection state. Observe the time when the reading decreases by 2MPa. If it is more than 10s, it means that the sealing performance is good. The longer the time, the better the seal. Note that there should be no oil leakage at the oil pipe joints
       2. Fuel injection pressure adjustment and test. The fuel injector is installed on the tester, and the pump oil is pressed evenly and slowly on the handle until the fuel injector starts to inject fuel. Observe whether the reading on the pressure gauge meets the requirements, if not, adjust it.
       3. Test of spray quality. Mainly check whether the fuel injector can inject diesel oil into a fine and uniform mist oil beam under the specified pressure. During the inspection, press the oil pump handle at a speed of 80 to 100 times/min, and observe that the sprayed oil beam should be in the form of a fine mist, without entrained oil lines and a single oil point flying out. There should be no deflection or scattering, and the oil should be cut off simply and neatly. After multiple injections, the front end of the injector is still dry or slightly wet, there should be no oil dripping, and the spray cone angle should meet the specified requirements. When there is no fuel injector tester, it can be directly checked and adjusted on the diesel engine by experience or by connecting a pressure gauge with a range of 40MPa to the fuel injection pump. Rotate the high-pressure fuel pipe to one position, install the fuel injector and turn the crankshaft, and check according to the above fuel injection quality requirements.
