What is the rated power of a diesel engine?

April 20, 2022
The calibrated power is obtained under different adjustment states of the diesel engine. In actual use, each diesel engine can only be adjusted according to the main purpose, that is, there is only one calibrated power; the external work of the diesel engine per unit time is called effective power, referred to as power. .

According to the national standard, there are four different standards for the rated power of diesel engines.

1. 15min power: the maximum effective power of the diesel engine allowed to run for 15min. It is suitable for vehicles such as automobiles and motorcycles that require short-term good overload acceleration performance.

2. 1h power: the maximum effective power of the diesel engine allowed to run continuously for 1h. It is suitable for construction machinery (truck cranes), tractors, diesel locomotives, ships, etc. that require a certain power reserve to overcome sudden load.

3. 12h power: the maximum effective power of the diesel engine allowed to run continuously for 12h. It is suitable for tractors, construction machinery, irrigation and drainage machinery, agricultural machinery and tractors that only need to run continuously within 12 hours and give full play to the power of the diesel engine.

4. Continuous power: the maximum effective power that the diesel engine allows to run for a long time. It is suitable for irrigation and drainage machinery, diesel generator sets, ships, etc. that require long-term continuous operation.
According to the characteristics of use, the manufacturer generally indicates one or two of the above four kinds of power on the nameplate of the diesel engine. The rated power is obtained under different adjustment states of the diesel engine. In actual use, each diesel engine can only be adjusted according to the main purpose, that is, there is only one rated power.

The work done by the diesel engine per unit time is called effective power, referred to as power, and is generally represented by the letter Ne.

The relationship between the power of the diesel engine and the torque and speed is: power (Ne) = (torque × speed) / 9545.45.

It can be seen from the relational formula: under the condition of constant power, the torque is large when the speed is low, and the engine is turned when the speed is high. Diesel engine in practice; during work, the torque transmitted by the flywheel should be equal to the external load. That is to say, if the load of the diesel engine increases, the torque also increases accordingly, and the speed of the diesel engine decreases; if the load of the diesel engine decreases, the torque also decreases accordingly, and the speed of the diesel engine decreases accordingly.
