What is the speed of the diesel engine?

April 20, 2022
The working room of the diesel generator set is a cycle process, so when it is working continuously, a unit is needed to describe the index of the number of work. Generally, we use the number of revolutions of the crankshaft per minute to express, which is called the speed.

The speed of the generator set is generally expressed in revolutions per minute, that is, r/min. Of course, different places of use of diesel engines require different rotational speeds. Fixed equipment includes diesel generator sets, water pump sets, etc. The speed of the diesel engine used is generally fixed. For example, the speed of the 50Hz diesel generator set sold by Tingbo Electric Power is 1500r/min.

Diesel engine speed generally has the following four conditions:

1. Rated speed or calibrated speed: the maximum speed at which the diesel engine is allowed to work at full load at the maximum throttle. At this speed, the diesel engine can run in time according to the power calibration situation.

2. Maximum idle speed: the maximum speed when the diesel engine is not under load at the maximum throttle. It is generally 5%~10% higher than the rated speed. At this speed, the running time of the diesel engine cannot exceed 2min.

3. Minimum stable speed: the minimum speed at which the diesel engine can run stably without load. Below this speed, the diesel engine runs erratically and easily stalls. The higher the speed of the diesel engine, the greater the torque received by each part of the diesel engine, and the higher the requirements for the material of the parts. Therefore, in order to ensure a certain service life of the diesel engine, the rotational speed of the diesel engine cannot be increased indefinitely.

4. The working speed of the diesel engine: the use of the same type of diesel engine is different, and its working speed is also different. Vehicle diesel engines are generally high-speed, construction machinery diesel engines are generally medium and high-speed, and agricultural machinery and stationary use are generally medium and low-speed. The speed of the marine diesel engine is low, and its speed is higher than 1000r/min, which is a high-speed diesel engine. The speed of some large marine engines is only 117r/min.
