How to design the generator room to quickly cool the diesel generator set?

June 01, 2022
We all know that the diesel generator set itself will generate heat during operation. If the cooling work of the diesel generator set is not done well, the stability of the operation of the generator set cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, the engine room where the diesel generator set is located must pay attention to the design of ventilation and cooling to eliminate the For the waste heat in the generator room, Tingbo Power reminds all users: The method of cooling the engine room should be determined according to the water source and weather conditions where the diesel generator room is located. Generally, it can be designed according to the following principles:

       (1) When the water source of the engine room is sufficient and the water temperature is low, it is recommended to use water cooling for the cooling of the diesel generator room. The conditions for designing the water-cooled diesel generator room are to have sufficient natural low-temperature water sources with good water quality, and the temperature of the engine room and the cooling water supply water. The temperature difference should be greater than 15°C, and the minimum should not be less than 10°C. Because if the water temperature is high, the temperature difference between the supply and return air is small, and the air supply system is large, and the user must increase the construction investment and operation cost.

Compared with other cooling methods, the advantages of the water-cooled diesel generator room are: the air intake and exhaust air volume are small, so the air intake and exhaust ducts are small; the water-cooled diesel generator room is less affected by the external atmospheric temperature of the project, no matter any season. It can ensure the cooling of the air in the machine room. The disadvantage is that the water consumption of the standard diesel generator set is large. When the engineering environment is limited by the water source conditions and there is no sufficient high-quality low-temperature water source, the user cannot use water cooling.

The cooling method of the water-cooled diesel generator room can adopt the water-spraying cooling method, that is, washing the air with water. Because the hot air in the computer room is in direct contact with the water droplets, the cooling effect is better, and the harmful dust in the air in the computer room can also be washed and purified. The water-cooled diesel generator room can also adopt the surface cooling method, that is, the hot air in the engine room exchanges heat with the cooling water on the surface of the metal cooler. The advantage of this cooling method is that it occupies a small area, and the cooling system can be flexibly organized, and users can configure it according to their needs. For example, some closed-cycle cooling diesel generator sets are equipped with a radiator on the head, which is generally not used in the closed diesel generator room. Cooling water to achieve the effect of reducing the temperature of the engine room and eliminating the waste heat of the diesel generator room.

       (2) When the water source is difficult or the temperature of the air entering the computer room in summer can meet the cooling requirements of the computer room, air cooling or a combination of air cooling and evaporative cooling should be adopted. The air-cooled diesel generator room uses the low-temperature air outside the machine room (generally, it should be about 5°C lower than the design requirements of the machine room), increases the air intake and exhaust air volume, and uses the air intake and exhaust air to remove the waste heat in the machine room.

       A. The air-cooled diesel generator room does not require a large amount of low-temperature water source, and has no cooling air supply system. The ventilation system in the machine room is simple and easy to operate. The air intake and exhaust air volume are large, the number of air changes per hour in the machine room is large, and the air is fresh and comfortable. However, the fan capacity of the intake duct and the exhaust duct is larger.

       B. Evaporative cooling is based on the air-cooled diesel generator room, using a small amount of supplementary water to cool the hot air in the engine room by isenthalpic (adiabatic) humidification. The evaporative cooling diesel generator room only needs a small amount of water. According to the power of the diesel engine, it is generally not more than 1.5×1.36kg/h per kilowatt. There is no strict requirement for the water temperature. Areas with difficult water sources and high water temperatures. With the continuous deepening of the research and test work on evaporative cooling, the evaporative cooling equipment is also constantly being improved.

       (3) When there is no sufficient water source and the inlet air temperature cannot meet the requirements of the air-cooled diesel generator room, an air cooler with artificial cooling and its own cooling source can be designed to eliminate the waste heat in the engine room. The construction investment and operation cost of the artificial refrigeration system are high. In winter or transitional seasons, the diesel generator room should make full use of the cold air outside the project for ventilation and cooling. Therefore, air cooling should generally be the main way to eliminate the waste heat of the diesel generator room. The diesel generator room adopts an automatic unit. After the compartment operation is realized, the on-duty personnel generally do not need to enter the engine room. The maximum allowable temperature for the cooling design of the engine room can be designed at 40°C.
