Routine basic maintenance is an important measure to maintain the reliability of diesel generator sets. There are many key points to optimize the reliability of diesel generator sets. By completing the following types of preventive maintenance detailed by Dingbo Power Company, you can ensure that your generator can be Keep running more efficiently.

Regular Inspections: Regular inspections of diesel generators will help identify any potential problems and fix them before serious problems occur. Inspections should include inspection of the exhaust system, fuel system and DC electrical system. The engine fluid level, oil pressure and coolant temperature should also be checked.

Lubrication Service: The oil level of the unit engine should always be as close to full as possible. Check the engine oil level with the unit off to ensure accurate readings and to make sure the oil is replenished and changed as needed. Regular oil filter changes will also help keep the alternator engine well lubricated.

Cooling system service: The cooling system checks the coolant level at specified intervals during shutdown. After letting the engine cool, remove the radiator cap and, if necessary, add coolant until the level is about 3/4 below the sealing surface under the radiator cap. Heavy duty diesel engines require a balanced coolant mixture of water, antifreeze and coolant additives. Use the coolant solution recommended by the engine manufacturer. Check the outside of the radiator for obstructions and remove any dirt or foreign matter with a soft brush or cloth. Be careful to avoid damaging the heat sink. If available, clean the radiator with low pressure compressed air or water flow in the opposite direction to normal airflow. Check the operation of the coolant heater by confirming that the hot coolant is draining from the outlet hose.

Fuel System Service: Since diesel is a fuel that deteriorates and contaminates over time, it is important to only store fuel that can be used for a year. Maintenance of the fuel system should include draining the fuel filter and draining the water vapor and deposits that have accumulated in the fuel tank. Also, while the generator set is running, check the fuel supply lines, return lines, filters and filter fittings for cracks or wear. Make sure the lines are clear without rubbing anything that could cause an eventual break. Replacing or repairing any leaking line wiring will immediately eliminate wear and tear.

Battery Check: One of the most common generator problems is related to battery failure. When testing the battery, make sure it is fully charged and keep an eye out for any corrosive leaks. Be sure to lightly wipe dirt and debris from the surface of the battery to prevent damage. When the battery can no longer maintain a normal charge, the battery should be replaced.

Exhaust system: When the generator set is running, check the entire exhaust system, including the exhaust manifold, muffler and exhaust pipe. Check all connections, welds, gaskets and joints and make sure the exhaust pipe is not damaged by overheating the surrounding area. Repair any leaks immediately.

Preventive maintenance is not only the key to ensuring generator reliability, but also the key to reducing diesel generator set operating costs. Expensive repairs can be kept to a minimum by preventing more serious problems by fixing damage as soon as it is discovered.
