Two common misunderstandings of diesel generator sets, see if you have any tricks?

June 01, 2022
The use of diesel generator sets has become increasingly widespread, and many fields are equipped with diesel generator sets, either as a backup power supply, or as an emergency power supply. In normal use, a series of safety operation training will be carried out for users, but many users still often have the following two misunderstandings in operation. Come and see if you have done this before?

       The use of diesel generator sets has become increasingly widespread, and many fields are equipped with diesel generator sets, either as a backup power supply, or as an emergency power supply. In normal use, a series of safety operation training will be carried out for users, but many users still often have the following two misunderstandings in operation. Come and see if you have done this before?

       1. Long-term low-speed operation of diesel generator sets
       The rotational speed refers to the number of revolutions of the crankshaft per minute, usually expressed in r/min. Usually 1500r/min, many operators think that the lower speed will not fail. In fact, too low speed will also bring some adverse consequences:
       1. Too low speed will reduce the output power of the diesel generator set, reduce its power, and affect the service life of the diesel generator set;
       2. Too low speed will cause the working speed of each component to drop, which will deteriorate the working performance of the component and reduce the output pressure of the oil pump, etc.;
       3. Reduce the reserve power of the diesel generator set, so that the diesel engine that should be working normally is in a full load or overload working state;
       4. If the rotation speed is too low, the rotation speed of the working machinery of the linkage mechanism will also decrease, which will reduce the mechanical performance of the work, such as reducing the water output of the pump and the head of the pump.

       2. The water temperature of the diesel engine should be lower
       The water temperature requirements for diesel engines are clearly stipulated, but some operators like to adjust the outlet water temperature very low, some are close to the lower limit of the outlet water temperature, and some are less than the lower limit. They believe that the water temperature is low, cavitation will not occur in the pump, the cooling water (liquid) will not be interrupted, and there is an insurance factor in use.

       In fact, as long as the water temperature does not exceed 95 °C, cavitation will not occur, and the cooling water (liquid) will not be interrupted. On the contrary, if the water temperature is too low, it is extremely harmful to the operation of the diesel generator set.

       1. The temperature is low, the combustion conditions of diesel in the cylinder deteriorate, the fuel atomization is poor, the combustion period after ignition increases, the engine is easy to work rough, aggravates the damage of crankshaft bearings, piston rings and other components, reducing the power and economy of the diesel generator set. .
       2. The water vapor after combustion is easy to condense on the cylinder wall, causing metal corrosion.
       3. Unburned diesel may dilute the oil and make lubrication worse.
       4. The incomplete combustion of fuel results in the formation of gum, which makes the piston ring stuck in the piston ring groove, the valve is stuck, and the pressure in the cylinder decreases when the compression ends.
       5. The water temperature is too low, the oil temperature is also low, the oil thickens, the fluidity becomes poor, and the oil pump oil volume is small, so that the oil supply of the generator set is insufficient, and the crankshaft bearing clearance becomes smaller, and the lubrication is poor.
