How to check the alternator of a diesel generator set?

April 20, 2022
Diesel generator set is a mechanical device that converts other forms of energy into electrical energy. It is driven by a diesel engine and converts the energy generated by the combustion of diesel fuel or nuclear fission into mechanical energy and transmits it to the alternator, which is then converted into electrical energy by the alternator.

The power part of the diesel generator set is generally an alternator, and the commonly used alternators are divided into two types: three-phase asynchronous generators and single-phase alternators. The first is often used in industry, while the second is often used in household appliances.

1. Special attention should be paid to the mechanical coupling of the single-bearing generator, and the air between the rotors should be uniform.

2. According to the schematic diagram and wiring diagram, select the appropriate power cable, and use copper joints for wiring. After the copper joints are fastened to the busbar and the busbar, the gap between the joints is greater than 0.05mm. The distance between the wires should be greater than 10mm, and the necessary grounding wire needs to be installed.

3. The terminals of the generator outlet box are marked with: U, V, W and N, which do not indicate the actual phase sequence. The actual phase sequence depends on the direction of the generator. The certificate quoted UVW to indicate the phase sequence when rotated clockwise, and VUW to indicate the actual phase sequence when rotated counterclockwise.

4. Check whether the wiring of the control panel is disconnected, and check one by one if necessary.
