Introduction of four lubrication methods for diesel generator sets

May 17, 2022
The main function of lubricating oil for diesel generator sets is to reduce friction and wear by providing a lasting protective oil film between the moving parts of the diesel engine, and at the same time, it can prevent the surface of various parts of the generator from corroding, and has a very important cooling effect on many parts of the unit. effect. In this article, JUNVOCH will introduce four lubrication methods for diesel generator sets.

1. Pressure lubrication
Pressure lubrication can also be called splash lubrication or splash lubrication. This method is generally used for small-bore single-cylinder diesel generators. It uses a special oil spoon fixed on the big end cap of the connecting rod to extend under the oil pan oil painting in each rotation to splash the oil to lubricate the various parts of the engine. The friction surface has the advantages of simple structure, low power consumption and low cost. The disadvantage is that the lubrication is not reliable enough, the oil is easy to foam, and the consumption is large.

2. Pressure circulating lubrication
The pressure circulation type is different from the pressure type. The pressure circulation type lubrication is to use the lubricating oil pump to continuously transport the lubricating oil to the friction surface under a certain pressure, which can ensure sufficient oil supply and good lubrication, as well as cleaning and strong lubrication. Cooling effect, reliable work. All parts under heavy load in modern diesel generators, including main bearings, connecting rod bearings, camshaft bearings, etc., are lubricated by pressure circulation.

3. Oil injection lubrication
Lubrication with oil injector In large diesel generator sets, diaphragms and piston rod ballast boxes are installed to separate the cylinder from the crankcase. Therefore, the lubrication of the cylinder liner and the piston group cannot rely on the splashing method of the lubricating oil in the crankcase, but must use a mechanical oiler to supply the lubricating oil to the many oil holes or oil grooves around the cylinder liner through the oil pipe for lubrication. Most of the lubricators are high-pressure plunger pumps, with a pressure of up to 2MPa, which can supply an appropriate amount of lubricating oil at regular intervals. This kind of lubricating method can be separated from the lubricating system of the diesel generator and use the cylinder lubricating oil of higher quality alone. Some high power medium speed diesel generators also feature mechanical oilers to supplement splash lubrication.

4. Compound lubrication
Most modern multi-cylinder diesel generators use a compound lubrication method mainly based on pressure cycle lubrication, supplemented by splash lubrication and oil mist lubrication. The compound lubrication method works reliably and can simplify the structure of the whole lubrication system.

For diesel generator sets, daily lubrication and maintenance are very important. Due to the different operating conditions of each moving part of the diesel generator set, the required lubrication methods and strengths are also different. The specific lubrication methods are as described above. Customers need to maintain The good habit of lubricating the unit regularly can make the unit get good lubrication effect.
