Reasons and Solutions for Noise of Diesel Generator Sets

June 01, 2022
The noise sources of diesel generator sets mainly include the combustion noise when the diesel engine is running, the noise generated by the mechanical operation of the unit, the sound of the fan rotating, and the noise formed by the air intake and exhaust. As far as diesel generator sets are concerned, Noise can be transmitted through airframe radiation, vibration of common bases, exhaust manifold discharge. Diesel generator sets bring people benefits, but also directly affect people's health, work and life because of the noise of the generator set. How to solve and overcome the noise problem has become the key to the application of diesel generator sets.

We all know that when the diesel generator set runs at 1500rpm, the noise of 105dB is generated at a distance of 1 meter from the unit. In order to avoid the generation of noise in the machine room, the noise reduction project should include: the air intake and exhaust system and the exhaust system are designed with a noise reduction groove; the exhaust pipe should be packaged with sound insulation. In this way, the heat of the generator set to the machine room can be reduced, and the working vibration of the set can be reduced, so as to achieve the purpose of noise reduction.

Diesel engine noise can be divided into mechanical noise, combustion noise and aerodynamic noise

       1. Mechanical noise. The noise is mainly caused by the collision and friction between the crankshaft, connecting rods and gear moving parts. Measures should be taken to control mechanical noise during the design stage. Such as reducing the cylinder bore, increasing the stroke-to-bore ratio, reducing the rated speed, and developing low-noise diesel generator sets.
       2. Burning noise. The combustion noise of the direct injection combustion chamber is often the main noise source of the diesel generator set. Combustion noise can be effectively reduced by changing the advance angle of the nozzle
       3. Aerodynamic noise. This noise is divided into exhaust noise, intake noise and fan noise. The sound level at 0.5m from the exhaust port can reach 115-128dba. Mufflers are the most effective way to deal with this noise and can be combined with filters.

In order to ensure that the use of diesel generator sets does not affect people's normal life and work, in some special occasions such as posts and telecommunications, hotels, entertainment, hospitals, schools, high-rise buildings, industrial and mining enterprises and other power supply places that have strict requirements on noise, power generation. The generator manufacturer recommends using a silent diesel generator set. The box body of the diesel generator set with a silent box produced by Dingbo is made of steel plate, and the surface is coated with high-performance anti-rust paint. With noise reduction, rainproof, dustproof and other functions, it is suitable for various harsh outdoor environments. The noise limit of the unit is 75db(a) (1 meter away from the unit), which conforms to relevant national standards such as gb2820-90. In addition, there is an observation window and an emergency stop button on the box, which is convenient to observe the operation of the unit, and stop the unit at the fastest speed in an emergency to avoid damage to the unit.
